Rediscover Possible through Physical Therapy and Functional Fitness
MATRX stands for Maximizing Abilities Through Research-based eXercise.
We are a therapist-owned private practice built on delivering physical therapy through techniques and technologies that are supported by clinical research. We come with a strong understanding of the evolution of a client's needs, the potential barriers to progress, and the overwhelming process of recovery involved with many neurologic conditions. This understanding comes from years of experience in various clinical settings: ICU, acute care, inpatient rehab, subacute rehab (SAR), outpatient rehab, and home health.
No matter the therapy setting, everyone becomes familiar with the word "progress". As a clinician, this word serves as the justification for ongoing services. When goals are met, new goals are formed, and the cycle continues. It always left me wondering, "Shouldn't there be life after therapy?". To answer my own question: Yes! There is a bigger picture.
Therapy is one part of the rehabilitation process. In outpatient therapy, the aim is often to maximize function and independence. In orthopedic rehab, this is generally to return to work, sport, or specific tasks that have become difficult due to an injury. After a catastrophic injury, we often don't know the full potential for return to previous activities. There are many everyday tasks that shape the focus of therapy and require great energy to achieve. The therapists at MATRX are very skilled at helping to overcome those hurdles...but we can offer more!
At MATRX Health and Fitness, we seek to empower individuals to become their greatest advocate for success. We help them navigate available resources and avenues for work, school, and recreation to rediscover what is possible in their lives. With a clearer picture of their desired life after therapy, we can more accurately assist with advancement toward this objective. We aim to progress our patients to independent direction and/or self-management of a maintenance program to enhance their quality of life. This program focuses on all aspects of fitness, nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle. As our patients "graduate" from therapy, we remain available for re-evaluation at prescribed intervals to update these programs or start additional bouts of therapy to tackle newly discovered obstacles or goals.
